The decoration of this table relates to the attributes of the greek god Dionysos: Bearded heads of Dionysos (statue of Dionysos in the British Museum), pan flute, vine leaves and grapes, ivy, panther and thyrus, (the table as a base for a bucolic dinner).

Collection of the mine tycoon and philanthropist William Boyce Thompson (1869 – 1930) Originally probably supplied to King Ernst August I. of Hannover who presented the table together with a nearly identical sideboard to his brother in law the Grad Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
